    My specialist knowledge:

I am a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. I have a detailed knowledge of taxation and use this in tax planning, which can assist you in retaining more of your hard earned profits. I am in regular correspondence with specialist offices of HMRC and use my experience of dealing with them to gain advance clearance from HMRC for some of our tax planning. I believe that all clients of Murray Taylor need to be informed of technical changes to taxation, which could affect their planning. I also believe that our clients need to be informed of all tax planning opportunities that are available to them.

What I do at Murray Taylor?

I have recently been appointed as Managing Partner and now have overall responsibility for moving our business forward and dealing with the changing face of the accountancy profession as we move into the digital age. I head up the tax planning team with Fiona.. Yes we deal with necessary compliance work but we won’t just prepare your tax return. I work with many talented people on our team and encourage them to develop their ideas for providing tax solutions to problems. We have retained the vast majority of trainees who have qualified with us and what gives me great pleasure is when one of them comes up with an idea that I would have been proud off. I am also heavily involved with health care professionals; we act for many GP Doctor surgeries, Dentists, Opticians and Vets. With my fellow Director Louise and our talented Health Care Team we ensure that our clients in this specialised area are well advised on matters that directly effect them.

    More about me:

I am married to Lynn, have four daughters and six grandchildren who keep me busy and entertained. I am a volunteer worker for Yorkhill Children's Charity and along with family and friends recently raised £6,000 for the hospital at a sponsored go karting event. As well as my family my interests, some would say addiction, are Dundee Football Club and Skiing. I regularly travel Scotland to watch the dark blues and recently joined NASTAR which is a ski training and racing organisation in the USA and Canada. I am also keen on rock music and have enjoyed the experience of attending a concert in Norway performed by the original members of Black Sabbath.

    My specialist knowledge:

I am a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. I have a rounded knowledge of accounts and tax and as such spend a large part of my time ensuring that compliance work for our clients is carried out in accordance with all filing deadlines and to the required standards. We are not simply a firm that carries out compliance work however, and therefore with all work I also aim to identify tax saving opportunities for our clients where possible. I enjoy working with our clients to offer general business advice at all relevant times.

What I do at Murray Taylor?

My main day to day role involves taking care of a portfolio of our clients, which means working with our accounts, tax, bookkeeping and admin teams to ensure all work is carried out to the highest standards and in the most time efficient manner as possible. I am therefore heavily involved in the day-to-day training and guidance for our trainee and senior accountants. Although dealing with a wide range of different business sectors, I enjoy working with a large number of farming, construction related and offshore industry clients. I have been working closely with the rest of our team to develop and establish our Cloud Accounting offering for our clients, which is helping many businesses modernise their bookkeeping systems and therefore ensure they are ready for the Making Tax Digital era.

    More about me:

From a young age, I enjoyed working with numbers and decided in my early teens that my career of choice would ideally be as an Accountant. This was reinforced following a week-long spell of work experience during my fourth year at Montrose Academy, which was carried out here at Murray Taylor.

Upon leaving the Academy after sixth year in 2002, I applied for and was offered the position of Trainee Accountant with Murray Taylor. Since then, I have progressed through the firm as a trainee, senior accounts assistant, manager and I am now proudly a director of the firm. Along the way, I achieved my goal of becoming a fully qualified accountant and can gladly say my days of sitting exams are firmly in the past!

In my spare time, I have a passion for playing, watching and attending football and tennis matches, amongst other sports. A couple of highlights to date include attending the Men’s Semi-Finals day and the Ladies’ Finals day at Wimbledon, and in particular I have enjoyed seeing Andy Murray play several times, both at Wimbledon and at the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris.
