Murray Taylor Update

Our team has been very proactive in the last month or so, both in and out of the office.

Out of the office, we climbed Schiehallion Mountain for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and are on target for raising in excess of £4,000 . We owe a great thanks to clients , friends and family who supported us . It was hard work and , yes, an uphill struggle, but nothing in comparison to what the kids in the Schiehallion ward have to face . We were just happy to do our little bit to help Children with Cancer in Scotland to be treated with new medicines in Scotland.

Speaking of uphill struggles , some of us went to Hampden to see Scotland beating Slovakia and really started to believe that the Murray Taylor trip to Russia next summer would be a reality . Well there’s always the next campaign.

Lynn and I attended the Gilson Gray Charity Ball in Edinburgh which was in support of both Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. A great night with a fantastic sum raised for both Charities . As always I am keen to point out that whilst both charities are based in Glasgow and Edinburgh respectively , I know, from personal experience of both charities, that they are there for all of Scotland’s children who need specialist medical care.

In the office , in partnership with Thorntons Solicitors , we took part in “cash for kids” Charity Wills which saw many of our team receiving free, yes, free, advice from the Thorntons team in connection with their wills. This will further enhance the great working relationship we have with Thorntons and further focus our minds in delivering good proactive advice to our clients with regard to their wills and Inheritance tax planning.

We are now entering the run up to Christmas , New Year  and the 31 January 2018 deadline for self assessment filing. To our clients who have handed their information in, thank you, to those of you who haven’t , please do so now. We never want Self Assessment to be just a compliance exercise for HMRC but rather an opportunity to plan and review tax affairs, we need time to do this.

Also with 31 December approaching , this means a filing deadline for many of our corporate clients who have 31 March year ends. Our tax planning team will be focused on Capital Allowances, Research and Development Claims  and general tax planning to mitigate liabilities.

Looking ahead , plans are well underway for the first Murray Taylor Charity Ball , which will take place in February . This will be in aid of The Myles Taylor Memorial Fund at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. It promises to be an exciting evening. More details will follow.

So what have I learned over the past month , stick to chairlifts for going up mountains and skis for coming down.
