Recently a client of ours  had been phoned by someone claiming to be HMRC, telling them they had a notice to pay outstanding tax and asked for bank details. This caller was said to be very convincing but luckily our client knew their tax was currently up to date and hung up.

This hasn’t been an isolated case so we are warning you to be vigilant and highlighting the fact that HMRC will never ask you for bank details over the phone.
